Department of Medicine Research Office

The mission of the Research Office is to support and advance research, scholarship and innovation in the Department of Medicine. Central to the development of a research oriented culture we focus on collaboration, open sharing of knowledge and development of core research skills.  The Research Office and the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) are committed to celebrating the success of our researchers who have helped the Department of Medicine achieve a position as a preeminent research centre.

Meet the Research Office Team

Teresa S.M. TsangTeresa S.M. Tsang, MD, FRCPC, FACC, FASE

Associate Head Research

Dr. Tsang was appointed Associate Head, Research in September 2011. She is a Professor of Medicine within the Division of Cardiology with expertise in echocardiography and clinical epidemiology. She was recruited to the Department of Medicine in late 2009 from the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. She is internationally recognized for her research in atrial fibrillation; echocardiographic prediction and prevention of first atrial fibrillation, heart failure, stroke; atrial remodeling and reversal; and diastolic function. In her capacity as Associate Head Research, Dr. Tsang will oversee the strategic operations of the Research Office, and take the leadership role in the implementation of the recommendations of the Research Task Force and the external review of research, and develop other initiatives to advance the research mission of the Department.

Jody joined the research office in 2013. She holds a PhD in chemistry specializing in biophysics and microscopy.  Prior to joining the Department of Medicine she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University; developing novel pharmacodynamic assays for whole cell imaging and quantification of both direct receptor activation and GPCR-RTK transactivation. Through these endeavors she has gained significant experience in grant writing, ethics applications, scientific reporting, workshop development and public speaking. Working in conjunction with Dr. Tsang, Dr. Swift will be responsible for the management and support of the research activities in the Department of Medicine.  Our goals are to uphold the values of the Department of Medicine and to assist in the development of a new collaborative, goal oriented research culture.
