Department of Medicine Rheumatology division head Dr. Kam Shojania receives 2013 Teacher-Educator Award from the Canadian Rheumatology Association.
Dr. Andrew Krahn, a renowned researcher in cardiac arrhythmias, has been recruited to serve as the new Head of the Division of Cardiology. Dr. Krahn brings a wealth of experience in cardiac care and research.

Department of Medicine researchers have released a study on the use of b-interferons to treat Multiple Sclerosis. They showed that these drugs, which are known to decrease relapses, do not lead to improved outcomes on disability.
Dr. Charles Krieger, Clinical Associate Professor in Neurology, has been awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contribution to ALS research
Dr. Neil Cashman, Professor in the Division of Neurology and Scientific Director of PrioNet Canada, has been awarded the Genome BC Award for Scientific Excellence from LifeSciences BC
Dr. Julio Montaner, Professor in the Division of HIV/AIDS and Director of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, has been awarded UBC's Jacob Biely Prize for 2011.

 Welcome to the Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. The Department of Medicine provides excellence in research, teaching and clinical services related to the nature, cause and prevention of adult diseases. We are the largest Department in the Faculty of Medicine with over 1,000 faculty and staff. The Department is comprised of 17 divisions with faculty located throughout the Province of British Columbia.
